Video Analyis from a British Artist

Music Video Analysis

N-Dubz - I Need You

Narrative:
The narrative of this video is about three people (artists) going into a club to enjoy themselves, having fun and hanging out with their mates.  Each person met someone that they liked and started to talk, then as group member's Tulisa said "I'll be back in 5 yeah?" indicates that she will be back in a minute. As she came back, her company has left so the whole concept of the video is that they wanted their love interests' phone number before they left but because they already have, they're saying "I really have to find you, baby I need you"

Genre:
The genre of this is hip hop and mixed with a little bit of r&b. You can tell this is a hip hop video is because it is set in a club, with lots of young adults aged 20-25 and also they're all dressed up but in a urban style, especially the males. The wardrobe includes hats, sunglasses, hoodies, etc.

Representation:
This video gives very typical views about people going into clubs, met somebody that they liked, but didn't get a chance to get their phone numbers. Neither of the gender are dismembered because they are in a club therefore there was an even number of males & females.

Media Language: Camera & Mise-En-Scene:
The artists make their own way into the scene at an airport runway. Dappy arrived in a helicopter, Tulisa arrived in a Lamborghini Gallardo and Fazer arrived in a motorbike. At this point, we know this is a hip hop video because it includes fast car & motorbike. The lighting is very dark as it is night time when they arrived then go to the club to have a good time. This emphasise the fact that it is night time, let's go to the club and find girls/boys. As the first chorus played, we see a low angle of the camera looking down Dappy's iPhone as he tried to find his love interest on a social networking site Facebook. This shows that their target audience is aimed at teenagers. This is because, most teenagers these days have a smart and also mostly everyone have a Facebook page. The camera focused on the artists a lot therefor they were easily identified. For the clothing, at the airport runway scene, all three members had black clothing. Likewise, in the club scene, the colour red weas the main. But overall, the black an red colour indicate that there's a dark theme going on because of the colour. In this case, the colour red represents love because they met their love interests. On the other hand, the black emphasise the conclusion as they did not get their contacts in the end.

Editing:
Throughout the video, there are many different types of shots and angles are used such as close up and establish shots; also low and high angles. The video is cut and edit to matched the beat alongside with special light effects. Almost every scenes started with an establishing shot to give viewers the whole concept of that scene, then moved on to a mid close up for it to focused on the artist and finally a close up shot to show their facial expression.

Sound:
N-Dubz have their own style of how they speaks and because they grew up in a working class areas, they tend to use slang a lot, however, N-Dubz called it 'Slanguage'. Their trade mark is Dappy saying "Na na nii" in all of their songs and videos and what they sing matches their genre of hip hop. As I mentioned before about their target audience is teenagers aged about 14-24, they will be able to interact and understands what N-Dubz is singing because that is how most teenagers speak when they are out with their friends. This song I Need You is an upbeating and very catchy song to listen to. It also captures both male and female sides although in this particular song, they have the same view. This is because, Dappy & Fazer are the two males in the group so how they sound is from a male's perspective. And on the other hand, Tulisa takes the female's perspective.
